When Mike Cusano tasted Davidoff's Special Anniversary
blend commemorating their 50th year of selling in China, he was
intrigued by its power. The cigar was handed to him by their Master
Blender in retaliation to his comment that Davidoff's reputation
was that of a "mild cigar". They smiled with anticipation
as he lit the cigar and they were pleased to see his reaction (eyes
watering and all)... He loved it! Obviously, they would not simply
re-label an existing Davidoff blend no matter how special, nor would
their blenders allow such a thing, so... They were forced to make
it better!
Keeping the power of the underlying filler blend, they enhanced
the experience with a very rare filler leaf that stimulates the
taste buds on the side of your tongue and actually makes your mouth
water as you "sip" the cigar. This sensation gives you
the feel that you are actually "drinking" the cigar.
To cap it off, they use a hybrid Cuban/Connecticut
Shade wrapper (same as on the Cuban Sancho Panza line) which they
double-ferment to a leathery perfection. The wrappers' strength
comes from the Cuban side and its smooth creaminess from the Connecticut
Shade, all blending together to disguise its power under a cool,
smooth, mouth-watering smoke.
